Seleukeia Ancient City
Lyrbe or Seleukeia Ancient City is located in Manavgat district of Antalya. This beautiful ancient city, which can be reached by going through the forest, is only one of the historical ruins in Antalya. The name discussions of Seleukeia Ancient City have been discussed frequently in the past. According to the book called Stadiasmus Maris Mayni, which is the handbook of the seafarers, the first name of the city is Seleukeia. However, in the recent studies, it is stated in the inscriptions written in Side language that the name of the city should be Lyrbe. The city is known by both names. As far as we have learned from the ruins of the ancient city of Seleukeia, the ancient city hosted the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods. Between 1972-1979, Prof. Dr. An excavation was conducted under the direction of Jale İnan. After the excavation, many architectural structures such as city walls, monumental gates and monumental towers, a very well-preserved agora, baths, temples and libraries were found in the ancient city of Seleukeia. Statues and mosaics found in the city are exhibited in Antalya Archeology Museum. Entry to Seleukeia Ancient City is free.
