Gelidonya Lighthouse
Gelidonya Lighthouse, also known as Kırlangıç Lighthouse, Taşlık Burnu Lighthouse, was built on the southernmost tip of the Teke Peninsula within the borders of Kumluca district of Antalya. Since the reverse currents of the Gelidonya (Taşlık) nose cause difficulties for the vessels, its construction started in 1934 and it was put into service in 1936. Gelidonya Cape, which is the region guided by the lighthouse, has caused difficulties for sailors throughout history. We can learn from the Phoenician shipwreck dating back to the 15th century. The shipwreck is exhibited in the Bodrum Underwater Museum. Because of geography and in the lighthouse construction properties found, it has a special place among other lighthouses in Turkey. Due to the lighthouse located 227 meters above the highest position of Turkey bears the distinction of being the owner of the lighthouse. The Lycian road, starting from the ancient city of Ephesus, passes through the location of the lighthouse. Although the lighthouse was built in the modern age, it attracts great attention from local and foreign tourists due to the historical and natural beauties of the region where it is established.
