Kekova Sunken City
Kekova Sunken City is located on the island of Kekova, a rocky island off the Demre district of Antalya. The city was built during the Lycian state, one of the Hellenistic states. The city has been flooded over time due to natural disasters and earthquakes. In the ninth century, although new construction works were carried out during the Byzantine period, it could not regain its former glory again due to Arab stats.
The island, where the sunken city is located today, has a surface area of 4.5 km². The ruins of the sunken city are located in the northern part of the island and under water. The city was named Dolichiste in the Lycian language and Kakava in Ottoman sources.
